Social mechanisms of robot programming by demonstration

چکیده
The special issue collects a subset of the best papers presented at the ICRA’05 workshop on the Social Mechanisms of Robot Programming by Demonstration. The workshop took place on April 21st 2005 in Barcelona, Spain, at the IEEE Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA’05). Eleven of the best papers presented at the workshop were subsequently submitted for peer review before publication in the special issue, eight of which were then selected for publication. The special issue emphasizes the role that social mechanisms play in driving and guiding robot programming by demonstration (RbD). It is a follow-up on our 2004 special issue on “Robot Programming by Demonstration” of the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Journal [2].

Workspace Boundary Avoidance in Robot Teaching by Demonstration Using Fuzzy Impedance Control
The present paper investigates an intuitive way of robot path planning, called robot teaching by demonstration. In this method, an operator holds the robot end-effector and moves it through a number of positions and orientations in order to teach it a desired task. The presented control architecture applies impedance control in such a way that the end-effector follows the operator’s hand with d...

متن کاملAssessing Interaction Dynamics in the Context of Robot Programming by Demonstration
In this paper we focus on human-robot interaction particularities that occur during programming by demonstration. Understanding what makes the interaction rewarding and keeps the user engaged helps optimize the robot's learning. Two user studies are presented. The first one validates facially-displayed expressions on the iCub robot. The best recognized displays are then used in a second study, ...
متن کاملLearning Social Interaction from the Wizard: A Proposal
Learning from demonstration (LfD) is a widely-used technique for programming robot behavior. Despite its flexibility and applicability to a wide range of tasks, LfD is most typically used to learn non-social behaviors. To our knowledge, no prior work has learned robot behavior from demonstration for interaction that is primarily social in nature. In this paper, we conjecture that LfD can be use...
متن کاملTeaching and understanding intelligent service robots: A Machine Learning Approach
One of the most important aspects in service robotics is the communication of service robots with their users. Since these users must in general be considered as not familiar with either robots or computers, this communication must take place in a human-oriented manner and employ human-understandable symbols. Here, two techniques relying heavily on learning mechanisms are presented that facilit...
